Automatic Kit Builder

Service Kits can greatly speed workorder development by automatically grouping together the parts and labor commonly used for a specific service.

A kit may include:

Labor operations

Inventory parts

Non-stocking parts

Repetitive service packages

Examples include:

Oil services

Brake jobs

Tune-ups

Transmission services

Preventative maintenance packages

Kits may be created directly in the Glossary system, or automatically from within an active workorder.

Building a Kit from a Workorder

The Automatic Kit Builder allows you to create a new service kit using labor and parts already entered on a workorder.

To begin:

1.Open the Labor tab of the workorder.

2.Highlight the labor item that should be included in the kit.

3.Press the Build button.

The system will then display all parts currently attached to the workorder.

Selecting Parts

Review the displayed list of parts.

Double click on each part that belongs to the selected service.

A check mark will appear next to all selected items.

Once all appropriate parts have been selected, press the OK or Process button.

Creating the Kit

The system will now prompt you for:

Kit Code

Kit Title / Description

Enter the desired information and press OK.

MLS 2026 will automatically:

Create a Parts Pick List

Associate the selected labor glossary code

Store the complete kit for future use

The kit can now be selected on future workorders to automatically insert all associated labor and parts entries.

Expanding an Existing Kit

If additional labor or parts should later be added to the same service package:

1.Repeat the Build process.

2.Enter the exact same Kit Code when prompted.

The system will append the newly selected items to the existing kit rather than creating a new one.

This allows kits to evolve and improve over time as your shop procedures change.

Advantages of Kits

Using Kits provides many benefits:

Faster workorder development

Consistent pricing

Standardized service procedures

Reduced data entry errors

Better technician communication

Improved estimate accuracy

Easier training for newer employees

Kits are especially valuable for repetitive services that are performed frequently.

Best Practice

Create kits only after you are confident the labor descriptions, pricing, and associated parts accurately represent your normal shop procedures.

Well-designed kits can dramatically improve consistency and efficiency throughout the entire workorder process.
