Editing Cautions

When editing records, here are some basic, but important, rules to follow:

•Make a backup of all files before doing any editing

•Be sure you know what changes actually need to be made

•Watch your keystrokes

•Never save changes until you verify that the new data was entered correctly

•Make sure that you do not change "linking" values ( items that tie a record to other records or files )

•When you complete your work, rebuild the file indexes

•Do not try to "adjust your books" by changing values ... it will result in inconsistencies in data
