MLS 2026 is designed for current Windows business systems. For networked installations, the server should be running Windows 11 Professional. Workstations should also use Windows 11 Professional for best reliability, security, and support.
MLS 2026 is a live, multi-user database system. This means several workstations may be reading and writing data through the server during the business day. For that reason, the quality of the Windows installation, network, hardware, and security configuration has a direct effect on performance and reliability.
Modern Windows systems manage many tasks at the same time. The operating system controls networking, printing, security, file access, memory, and communication between programs. This is very different from older DOS-based systems, where the application handled much of the work directly.
Because MLS 2026 depends on constant access to shared data files, anything that interrupts file access can cause problems. This may include:
•Weak network connections
•Server sleep settings
•Unstable Wi-Fi
•Aggressive antivirus programs
•Low memory
•Failing drives
•Poor cabling
•Windows permission issues
Quality equipment and proper configuration are essential.
Use Windows 11 Professional on the server and workstations.
The server should:
•Remain powered on during business hours
•Have sleep and hibernation disabled
•Use a wired Ethernet connection
•Have reliable backup power
•Be protected by Windows Security
•Have sufficient RAM and SSD storage
•Be backed up daily
Workstations should also use wired Ethernet whenever practical. Wi-Fi may work for limited tasks, but wired connections are strongly preferred for daily work processing.
Microsoft Windows Security is usually sufficient and is recommended for most installations.
Some third-party antivirus, malware, or ransomware protection programs may interfere with MLS operations by blocking:
•Program updates
•File access
•Shared database activity
•Network communication
If third-party security software is used, it must be configured carefully so it does not interfere with the MLS program and data folders.
To reduce problems, follow these practices:
•Open a workorder, complete the task, save, and exit the workorder.
•Avoid leaving the same workorder open on multiple computers.
•Do not leave the program sitting at the login screen.
•Run one report at a time.
•Reindex files only when all other users are out of the program.
•Report errors using the Bug / Enhancement option so the error log is included.
•Keep the server, router, switches, and cabling in good condition.
Many system problems are actually network problems. Loose cables, failing switches, weak network cards, or unstable power to network equipment can interrupt data access.
Inspect your network periodically. A simple cabling or router problem can appear to be a software issue when it is actually a communication failure between the workstation and server.
If you encounter an error, use the Bug / Enhancement Report option under Tools. Include a clear description of what you were doing when the problem occurred.
If we do not hear from you, we cannot know what needs to be corrected or improved.
